Collaborating with VUG 2023’s organizing committee, VNG introduced eSports to this prestigious sports competition for Vietnamese students.

The event took place on 26 & 27 May 2023, at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, attracting thousands of student athletes from universities across Vietnam. For a decade, VUG has held the reputation of being the largest and most esteemed sporting event for students in the country, promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among millions of students.

This year, three VNG Games were included in the eSports segment of VUG 2023: VALORANT, PUBG Mobile VN, and League of Legends: Teamfight Tactics. The introduction of eSports received an overwhelmingly positive response, with nearly 60 students registering to compete. This enthusiastic participation affirms the growing allure of eSports among young people in Vietnam.

The successful integration of eSports into VUG reinforces VNG’s commitment to establishing high-quality eSports competition platforms within Vietnamese campuses. These platforms offer students an opportunity to engage, learn, and pursue careers in the gaming industry and eSports, providing valuable insights into the field’s potential.

Vietnam, with its young and tech-savvy population, represents one of the most promising markets for eSports in Southeast Asia. According to a report by the General Statistics Office in 2021, 2 out of 10 Vietnamese individuals play eSports games. Furthermore, in 2022, the mobile game industry in Vietnam generated a revenue of 507 million USD and attracted 54.6 million Vietnamese gamers, as reported by Statista.

Vietnamese gamers have not only left their mark on the national stage but have also demonstrated their talent and bravery on the international arena. During the 31st SEA Games, the Vietnam eSports team consisted of 61 players competing in eight sports, with a significant portion of the players being students.
