On March 11, the ceremony to honor and confer the level of Vietnamese eSports athletes in 2023 was held at VNG Campus (HCMC).

The event, which was hosted by the Vietnam Recreational eSport Association (VIRESA), aimed to review the industry’s achievements and honor individuals and groups who have made positive contributions.

The event recognised 83 athletes with the title of eSports Grandmasters for their outstanding performance in sports and international tournaments, according to the standards set forth in Circular No. 06/2021/TT-BVHTTDL issued on July 22, 2021 by the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Additionally, 20 individuals were recognized as National Athletes and National Coaches, while more than 40 collectives, including publishers, investors, funding, and media partners, were honored.

The year 2022 was considered a successful one for Vietnam’s eSports industry, with outstanding achievements at the SEA Games 31. As VIRESA’s strategic partner in the event, VNG was responsible for three out of eight events and achieved three gold medals and one silver medal. At the upcoming 32nd SEA Games, VNG will continue to accompany VIRESA in deploying the SEA Games 32 Vietnam Qualifier (a national team selection tournament for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang) and the SEA EC 2023 (a pre-SEA Games 32 competition for Southeast Asian teams).

La Xuan Thang, position at VNG stated: “We believe that recognising eSports is an essential movement to generate positive responses from the society.” With the recognition from the authorities and policymakers, the ceremony is expected to be a stepping stone for eSports community to receive further supports and engagements from the public.
